& Community Sector
'Central to the Common Air Theatre Company's community work & educational outreach work is the belief that theatre can spearhead social change and offer participants opportunities to express themselves and to explore problems & solutions in the safe environment of play acting'
We offer a range of drama classes to children of both primary and secondary age incorporating techniques including improvisation and forum theatre along with playscript writing & developing. We can cover the following 'issues' in our workshops for schools (but welcome suggestions offered by schools & teachers as to important topics that they feel need to be covered):
·Conflict resolution
·Bullying & peer pressure
·Drugs and alcohol
·Transitions (leaving home, moving schools, etc)
·Raising Aspirations
·Sex & Relationships
·Emotional Health & Well Being
·Domestic violence
·Anti social behaviour
·Interview technique
·Teenage pregnancy
·Gun & knife crime
Along with facilitating a range of theatre skills and games for the youth.
Drama workshops and theatre are essential in a child's education; it is also an invaluable tool for the teachers who gain valuable insight from the workshops: being introduced to new techniques as well as having the opportunity to act as participants instead of their usual role as teachers.
Our workshops focus on the curriculum being taught thus adding value to the teaching.
We work with the students in an engaging way emphasising “creativity as an educational tool.”
We aim to give all young people the chance of a positive future by helping them to learn in ways that motivate and stretch them and enable them to achieve; engage in positive developmental activities; make informed choices about their lives and benefit from high-quality, targeted support before problems escalate.
