Common Air Theatre Company
Mission statement

The Common Air Theatre Company strives to produce theatre with compelling themes that effect, include, challenge, and change an audience, as if they are a part of the production not just an observer.

We want to promote & effect social change. To this end, we will work within the voluntary & community sector along with producing hard-hitting and immediate professional theatre.

The Common Air Theatre Company wishes to encourage artists & audiences to think, react and question established boundaries that are within the theatre space and within the larger theatre of local & global debate. We wish to create work that engages and entertains whilst maintaining political & social ideas to encourage discussion and inquiry. Within the Common Air Theatre Company, we wish to nurture a collective of artists from all areas to produce theatre of the high quality and social value.

The beauty of theatre is its immediacy and intimacy. The audience and the actors have the chance to breathe and sweat inches from each other— to share a common air.

SERVICES:

Within their professional work, Common Air Theatre Company will weigh quality of writing, subject matter, audience acceptance, production grasp and overall marketability of each play when choosing projects for the stage. We will commit ourselves to the excellence and integrity of every project. We respect and honor aspirations of the writers, directors and performers involved in each production.

Within the community work & outreach, Common Air Theatre Company will establish relationships with local organizations of both arts & educational spheres. The driving force of

the outreach programme will be the belief that theatre can spearhead social change and offer participants opportunities to express themselves and to explore problems & solutions in the safe environment of play acting.

• Ongoing maintenance of strategic industry contacts and relationships will ensure a broad understanding of the market and the ability to penetrate and utilize the industry to the benefit of each production.

• Strong and knowledgeable business management will maximize the potential and profitability of each production.

• Continuous application of accurate accountability of all production components will ensure the successful completion of each project.

• Ongoing co-operation and network with existing community structures, clinics and local government authorities. Local partnerships are essential for long term development of the local community and its inhabitants and only by using all resources available better life for all can be achieved.

• Ongoing recruitment of young people within the community through schools, youth clubs, and other areas where youth gather.

COMMON AIR THEATRE COMPANY – THE FUTURE

We are a company interested in using theatre to effect social change both within the walls of a theatre and without them. Within all that we do, we will keep to the forefront that theatre should be used as a tool to promote & advance this change.

We are interested in producing work for which we have passion and that is of the highest quality. We want to become a vibrant contributor to the London arts scene & equally to the voluntary & community scene through our initial programmes as outlined above & also with a keen ear towards the ever-evolving needs of our community and the ever-evolving social &

political makeup of our society.
